Now place in your windows VSTs somwhere where the container can access, just not in ~/.vst ~/.vst3, I'd go with ~/Music/WindowsVSTs. Now go to and download yabridge-x.x.x.tar.gz copy it to some directory you can access in your container (in my case it's /var/hosts/ardour/ / the container home directory) : cd ~ This should take care of most of the dependencies. Sudo apt install -install-recommends winehq-staging -y Sudo apt install pipewire-audio-client-libraries ardour wget -y Sudo wget -O /etc/apt/keyrings/winehq-archive.key For that we now need to add a few dependencies: sudo dpkg -add-architecture i386 Now we can start setting up ardour and yabridge. distrobox create -image ubuntu:22.04 -name ardour -home /var/hosts/ardourĪfter that you should be able to enter the container with: distrobox enter ardourĪfter a few seconds you should be in the container. I'm going to use /var/hosts/ardour only so I can keep my main system clean. You can skip this if you're not that interested in that. Or you can actually create it with a custom home path for the container (and it will mount there) so that it doesn't affect your main home directory by adding -home path-to-your-custom-container-home. To actually create the container (don't do it yet, read the next line): distrobox create -image ubuntu:22.04 -name ardour Now to actually cut corners I'm going to use Ubuntu 22.04 because of the packages, it's going to be way easier and faster than actually compiling Ardour. This should install distrobox and automatically reboot your system -r flag. In this case I'm going to use Fedora Silverblue (yeah, I'm a fanboy) and going to install it like such: rpm-ostree install distrobox -r Sounds Freesound ccMixter Songs, samples under CC Musical Artifacts : Sounfonts, samples, synth presets etc.Ĭurated software list Awesome-linuxaudio īasically as the title says here, this is essentially a tutorial on how to install Ardour on a Fedora installation and use windows VSTs, but it should work on almost every system as it's container-based and as long as you're using pipewire.įirst and foremost I'm going to use distrobox here, it works with containers and does most of the job here.
